چکیده

We use the term ubiquitous supercomputing to refer to systems that integrate low-and mid-range computing systems, advanced networks, and remote high-end computers with the goal of enhancing the computational power accessible from local environments. Such systems promise to enable new applications in areas as diverse as smart instruments and collaborative environments. However, they also demand tools for transporting code between computers and for establishing ex-ible, dynamic communication structures. In this paper , we propose that these requirements be satissed by enhancing the Java programming language with global pointer and remote service request mechanisms from a communication library called Nexus. Java supports transportable code; Nexus provides communication support. We explain how this NexusJava library is implemented and illustrate its use with examples.

Locust - A Brokerage System for Accessing Idle Ressources for Web-Computing

In this paper we present a brokerage system for making idle cpu ressources of anonymous users of the World Wide Web accessble for distributed Web-Computing. The Locust (LOw cost Computing Utilizing Skimmed idle Time) Broker collects and remarkets the aggregated ressources by means of ubiquitious Web and Java technologies and creates an electronic spot market focused on the mainstream Internet u...

Cluster Computing : The Commodity Supercomputing

The availability of high-speed networks and increasingly powerful commodity microprocessors is making the usage of clusters, or networks, of computers an appealing vehicle for cost effective parallel computing. Clusters, built using commodity-off-the-shelf (COTS) hardware components as well as free, or commonly used, software, are playing a major role in redefining the concept of supercomputing...

Idle Computing Resources as Micro-Currencies - Bartering CPU Time for Online Content

In this paper we present a brokerage system for using idle computing resources as a micro-currency for Web services hardly quantifyable with real currencies as downloading stock charts or accessing a search engine. The Locust (LOw cost Computing Utilizing Skimmed idle Time) system acts as a Broker for micro-payable services by demanding a part of the user’s idle computing resources in exchange ...

An Enterprise-Based Grid Resource Management System

As the Internet began its exponential growth into a global information environment, software was often unreliable, slow and had dif£culty in interoperating with other systems. Supercomputing node counts also continue to follow high growth trends. Supercomputer and grid resource management software must mature into a reliable computational platform in much the same way that web services matured ...
